About Us

Hayabusa® is a global leader in the combat equipment and technical fight apparel industry with products available worldwide. Specializing in equipment and apparel items created for martial artists, boxers and fitness enthusiasts, Hayabusa is a leader in protection and performance for all fighters.

History

Hayabusa (pronounced hi-ya-boo-sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon and was founded in 2006 by Ken Clement, Craig Clement, David Zikakis and Luke Harris.

Initial product offerings included a specialized series of fight gloves, rash guards and fight shorts, since these were the fundamental training tools fighters required. The products were created with a focus on producing equipment and apparel that could meet and exceed the requirements and demands of a new era of athletes. Hayabusa has maintained a research-based approach to conceptualizing, designing, testing and manufacturing its products. These are driving factors as to how Hayabusa constructs the best equipment in terms of comfort, fit, feel, and most importantly, performance and safety.

A martial artist is continuously learning and improving their craft, a philosophy called Kaizen. Hayabusa has adapted the same Kaizen approach as martial artists by continuously improving in all aspects of business. Whether it is product development, performance research or business processes, Hayabusa pushes to raise the bar and challenge the status quo.

Corporate Structure

The Hayabusa corporate structure is as follows: Ken Clement (CEO), Craig Clement (CFO), and David Zikakis (COO) headquartered in Kingston, Ontario, Canada with the global distribution center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hayabusa also has extended license agreements to two independent gyms in Canada. One in Edmonton, Alberta, led by Luke Harris, and the second in Kingston, Ontario led by Chris Wellstood. These two centers also serve as testing grounds for Hayabusa's products.

Research and Development

Hayabusa Fightwear Inc. has funded research studies at major universities across North America. These universities, in addition to other third-party laboratories, have conducted research into the safety and performance of equipment and materials. This research has led to published research papers in peer reviewed journals, poster presentations and has yielded proprietary data, results and findings. The overall goal is to ensure equipment design and the material used can properly protect athletes — professional, amateur, and novice as well as general combat enthusiasts.
